Thirsk and Sowerby leisure centre opens its doors after £4M makeover
Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centre will today open its doors after undergoing a £4M pound makeover.
Work on the centre began in February this year with planned upgrades and extensions now complete, bringing it bang up to date.
The centre now boasts a gym three times the size of the old facility, which is fully equipped with market leading Technogym equipment, which for the first time, will be operational 24/7 from November.
A new studio for exercise classes and meetings, as well as a cycling studio, which includes the Technogym virtual cycling solution, will help provide a vibrant range of classes for customers. The pool changing area and showers have also received a makeover including upgraded LED lighting to make the space more welcoming.
Outdated plant equipment has been replaced with greener, more environmentally sustainable equipment and it has a new roof to address much needed repairs and condensation issues experienced within the building.
The gym changing rooms have been updated and extended and the reception area has also been transformed into a light and airy modern space.
Alliance Leisure Services Ltd was appointed by Hambleton District Council at the start of the project as the developer for the scheme, with ISG Ltd the main contractor.
Director of Leisure & Communities Steven Lister said: “We are delighted the centre is reopening today after undergoing a comprehensive development programme.
“I know the facility has been a real miss to the local community over the last few months whilst the work has taken place, so I hope both existing and new members come along and enjoy all that’s on offer at this new, up to date facility.”
An official opening ceremony will take place later in the year.
